What Are The Seven Main Chakras?

Whilst there are a lot of different forms of massage therapies designed to help the body in various ways, chakra balancing is one of the most unique, holistic and all-encompassing.

The reason for this is that it consists not only of a single massage or exercise but instead a series of treatments that rather than induce a sense of relaxation necessarily, intend to create a greater focus and attunement with the body both physically and emotionally.

To understand the methodology of how it works, it is important to look at the chakras themselves.

Based on the Sanskrit word for wheel or circle, a chakra is a focal point of the body which serves as energy centres of the body. Supposedly, there are between 114 and 88,000 different chakras in the body depending on which source is used, but there are seven in particular that matter the most:

  • The Root Chakra at the base of the lower back, connected to security.
  • The Sacral Chakra below the belly button, connected to creativity and emotional connections.
  • The Solar Plexus Chakra in the stomach, connected to self-esteem, self-control and self-confidence.
  • The Heart Chakra, located in the chest, connected to compassion and expressions of love.
  • The Throat Chakra, connected to verbal connection.
  • The Third Eye Chakra between the eyes, connected to intuition.
  • The Crown Chakra, on the top of the head, linked to purpose and connections to oneself, to other people and the world at large.

According to several theories related to chakra points, these energy centres are interconnected, with positive energy flowing through them harmoniously, leading to a greater sense of positivity and an improved sense of well-being.

There are a lot of potential causes for this. Unlike many other massages which help people to relax and enter a peaceful state, a chakra balancing session uses massages to make people more mindful of the moment, which can help in the long term to induce calm and focus.
